Volant air intake systems utilize a high-velocity venturi filter adapter which provides a smooth transition through the MAF sensor into the intake tube for a much needed airflow improvement over the factory rubber tubing and resonator box. Volant's Cool Air box is larger than the factory unit and incorporates a larger opening to collect a higher volume of colder ambient air.
This model includes a MaxFlow 5 Oiled Filter for improved performance with the comfort of oiled filtration technology for those looking for horsepower.

I am running my xterra without any fender liners. I took them out when I added my high clearance bumper and have since lost them in a move. Occasionally will get dirt debris in the box. That is most likely secondary to the missing fender liners. It is not a straight up bolt on. But with a little massaging and love, and perhaps buying a longer screw for the middle mounting position so the screw will catch, this thing is awesome! Freaking excellent throttle response. Feels way more "peppy". Love it! Sounds kinda nice.
My overall experience with this cold air intake was very satisfactory. The quality of the product is very good. Install wasn't as bad, just that the bolt hole didn't line up properly, but with a little maneuvering, I was able to get it done. Love the intake. Enjoying the sound and the extra power.
I ordered the “closed” 12740 airbox to install a snorkel. When it arrived, it was NOT a closed/sealed system. Customer service Rep Mike Meyer has been AMAZING through this process. A second was sent to and it also was NOT a closed/sealed airbox. I’m currently waiting for my 3rd airbox to arrive and hope I FINALLY get the one I ordered 2 months ago. Again, Big shoutout to Mike Meyer in customer service !
No horns relocation bracket in box… should new MAP sensor be included or should old one be used ? Nothing mentionned in documents… bottom holes don’t match… I filed a claims request for missing MAP, one week no answer… I sent questions via company system a few days ago, no answer… I’m guessing this division of the mother company is closing down and old stock is being cleared…
Item was almost a direct fit like indicated. Just like everyone else that has reviewed this item the horns need to be removed and relocated. I also found I had to drill a different internal middle hole just off of the provided one for all 3 screws to attach. Other than that I love this item.
The bad first: It does not fit. I had to remove the horn. Was able to adjust the position of the horn by bending the bracket and removing one of the two horn units. Noise, much louder than the stock equipment. The Good: I do notice an improvement in performance. I live at 6,000 feet altitude and the Volant does help the engine breath better. There is a slight but noticeable increase in power and response. I hope to follow this up with headers for a little more power.
I have to relocate my horn the instruction say that it comes with a bracket and no bracket included and it also says to move it 2 inches out of the way. Move it 2 inches where? It also should come with a plug or seal at the bottom of the air box because there is a hole from where I took out the screw from the old air box, anyways the volant air box doesn’t line up with the bottom hole so you can’t get the screw to cover the hole.
We won't bother you too much, but sometimes we have some cool stuff to talk about...
